What is a signed IPSW?

A signed IPSW is a firmware version that Apple currently approves for installation. You can only restore your device to these versions. Unsigned versions cannot be installed without specific exploits or saved blobs (SHSH).

How to Restore

Restoring your device wipes all data. Make sure you have a backup.

  1. 1Download the correct IPSW for your exact model.
  2. 2Connect your device to your computer.
  3. 3Open Finder (Mac) or iTunes (Windows).
  4. 4Hold Option (Mac) or Shift (Windows) and click Restore.
  5. 5Select the downloaded file and confirm.
